We enter the month of July under the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar Sun Sign of ‘Transformer (CIMI)' in the 5^th Night of Galactic Cycle. The energetic or Galactic ‘Tone' corresponding with the calendar date is an 8 which aligns with ‘Justice'. According to http://www.mayanmajix.com/ , "Harmony and balance are the intent of Eight....the power of organization demonstrated in the statement, "As above, so below." From simplicity to infinity, the energy of eight organizes all levels of creation."

It's quite appropriate we enter this month in the energy of 8, as July is a preparatory time for the coming tri-numeral event in August  8-8-8. It's been 20 years since the last occurrence of this alignment. The last one completely changed the direction of my spiritual journey, and continues to guide my path even now.

A monthly calendar put out by Louise Hay, Hay House, suggests July is a good time to, "Look within this month. Give yourself some time to be alone. Take walks. Meditate. Trust that your future is in good hands. Be appreciative."

Speaking of the future, and the Mayans....we now have the dates set for "Expedition 2012"...a group cruise scheduled for May 3-10, 2009 and departing from Tampa, Florida on the Carnival Cruise ship "Legend". We'll be stopping at ports of call in Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize and Honduras, touring Mayan sites, and gathering on board the ship for unique programs and presentations throughout the week. Our thoughts this month invariably turn toward the idea of Freedom. As we witness the celebrations in our cities, we have the opportunity to reflect on a higher meaning of Freedom for ourselves....from fear and self doubt, freedom from confusion and struggle....freedom from pain. Ultimately, we are free to choose what we think and feel. We may not feel we can change a circumstance we are in, but we can choose how we react and respond to any given situation. The focus and affirmation for July are about ‘Growth'.....I hope it acts like a fertilizer for your path!

My husband Russ and I just returned from the Kiwanis International Convention in Orlando, Florida. I know, I know, there are still people out there who think Kiwanis is just a bunch'a old guys sittin' around having lunch.....instead of realizing it is a dynamic, global organization of almost 600,000 volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child, and one community at a time. I joined Kiwanis in 1999, Russ has been a member since 1971. International estimates are that 150,000 service projects a year are completed by Kiwanians around the world, and it was deeply moving to see many of those highlighted at the convention. Rob Parker, CEO of Kiwanis International, told two stories I'd like to abbreviate and share with you.

The first, was about a young boy who played monopoly with his Grandmother every time he visited her. She was so good at the game, she always won. The boy practiced, and practiced, studied all the rules and tricks of the game. Sure enough, next time they played, the boy was the victor. As they were putting away the pieces, money and game board, the Grandmother spoke. "You did really well today. You won! But look at this...all the money you had, all the real estate holdings and railroads you owned, they all go back in the box. When all is said and done, everything goes back in the box, and all that you're left with is how you played the game."

That makes me think of the Beatles song from the Abbey Road album whose lyrics say, "...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."

The second story was a true tale about a lamplighter from London in the late 1800's. Back then, the major streets of London were illuminated with gas lamps, and it was his job to light them as night drew near. You could lean out a window overlooking the street below and watch as he climbed his ladder, lit the lamp, and went on to the next one. After a while, you couldn't see him anymore, but you could see where he'd been... by all the lights that were turned on.

In our own way, each one of us is like that lamplighter...you can tell where we've been by seeing the light left behind.

This month we get to send our birthday greetings to people under the sign of Cancer, whose most likeable trait is Loyalty. Cancer is ruled by the moon, thus it is the sign demonstrating powerful forces and currents of energy moving below the surface, what we see with our eyes.

July begins with more than fireworks as a celestial show unfolds on the 4^th  with Mars and Saturn converging to the left of Leo's star Regulus, a very bright star, and appearing so close that their three combined lights create a 1st-magnitude line in the sky. Keep watching, because the show gets better.

On the 5th, a beautiful crescent Moon comes into the picture, joining Saturn and Mars in the all-star lineup. On Sunday the 6^th , a scalene triangle between Saturn, Mars and the crescent moon can be seen. Saturn and Mars continue moving until they converge on the 10^th  for their   closest encounter for the next 14 years, just ¾ of a degree apart.      Saturn and its Rings 

Jupiter is at its brightest magnitude this month, reaching opposition on the 9^th, and is closest to the Earth on the 10^th. Mercury is also its brightest midmonth in July, and can be seen low in the predawn eastern sky. Earth reaches aphelion -  its position farthest from the Sun for 2008 - on July 4^th.

The full Moon occurs on the 18^th in Aquarius, and the Sun moves into Leo on the 23^rd. Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto remain in retrograde motion. Watch for the Delta Aquarid meteor showers on July 30^th in the predawn southern skies, with approximately 10 meteors per hour.                                                                                               The Red Planet-Mars
