October 2007One morning as I was putting the birdfeeders out on the back porch, I could see that a light was left on overnight. Throughout the summer, my field of vision from my desk is blessed with appearances of ruby-throated hummingbirds, iridescent indigo buntings and brightly colored goldfinches, to name a few. But the feeders can’t stay out overnight, otherwise, we’d be feeding the bears that occasion by, and we’ve reattached the iron bars that hold the feeders enough times to know they are not polite, even when invited to dinner. As I looked to the side of the porch door, I saw a moth in pose, immobile, silent. It was a moth in vasana yoga pose, stretched and erect with it’s head facing toward the light and body in the Samadhi of focus. It was facing the light. Rigid. How long, I wondered, did that moth sit there in rapture embraced by the brightest light it had ever seen? And was it the intensity of the light that had brought the moth to its present situation? A shell of its former self. The life force gone. And then the thought came to me, “Is that how it would be for those who desperately seek release in the light of awareness?” Time can seem unbearably slow on the journey of awakening. We can find ourselves impatient, thinking things should be moving at a faster pace, the release of density and transformation into higher consciousness a distant shoreline which never seems to get any closer. But it’s there, just waiting for our readiness. Too soon, and it is possible the influx of Light would fry our little fragile human bodies. Faced toward the light. Rigid. So let us instead choose to trust, because it is after all, all about trust. Trust that you are unfolding perfectly on your journey just as your soul desires. Trust that you are guided, and protected, and loved more than you can imagine. Trust that you are connected to all things, and far more powerful, far more beautiful, infinitely grander than our own galaxy. Let us choose to clear our field of vision, so that we see the messages spirit sends our way. Let us choose to see through the illusions to the higher truth of who we are becoming. Okay, so it’s about more than trust, it’s also about choice. May you make the highest choices today. |
