November 2007

I awoke very early one recent morning in the darkness, save the light from the candle that glowed in the other room. ‘Great’, I thought to myself, ‘awake again in the middle of the night’, and my brain starts to engage. I know this routine….well. Then I think, ‘No, I’ll pray instead. Have a little chat with God.” And I do.

Some time later, it is my turn to listen. And I ask Source, “Okay, what is it you would like me to see? What do I need to know for today?’

Amidst the hundred miles an hour that my life seems to remain in, it’s nice every now and again to receive a message, or vision, that answers my question, or confirms we are headed in the right direction. The Big-Booming-Voice thing doesn’t happen that often for me – so I pay attention to the subtler things in life and nature to see Spirit speaking to me.

I found myself in a dream. My husband Russ and I were with a group in Haifa, Israel. We had decided to go outside into the streets, and look at the mountains and city. Many were fearful about going outside with the threat of violence and bombs an ever present danger. Or so it seemed. In the distance the western skies were burning red – the appearance that it was from flames and cities on fire – but it was the sunset, in deep hues of red, orange amber and violet. It was breathtaking. And looking at the east, the city was aglow with the lights of homes and businesses, just like it looks in mountain valleys back home.

And then we see it.

A large green tree in the middle of a square, with people milling all around it, and ribbons dangling from its branches, and the flag of every country represented on its boughs. And I hear the message….. “Peace is possible”. And we are deeply moved at the sight. “Peace is possible, if we only hold the vision.”

I take a few moments to send the energy of love and compassion to every city and every village in Iraq, anchoring the energy of Peace there. Then I realize that we won’t be able to make the plans we have tomorrow with my dad and step-mom since flights from Iraq won’t get us home in time! And I awaken.

What a beautiful message about our opportunity. The fabulous billboard I’ve seen in Jacksonville, Florida sent that message home as I think – “The best way to predict the future, is to create it”, and I am reminded again. Wonderfully. Just to make sure I really get it, later on as I am waking for the day, I hear the sound of a dove on our balcony. Making those noises doves love to make.

A Dove of Peace, perhaps?
